The Daily Create

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “what’s in your breakfast bowl?”.

Take me back! Every morning before elementary school, I had the craziest things on my toaster waffle: butter, peanut butter, and syrup. I called it the “waffle with three things”. Creative, I know… I decided to make a waffle this morning to sweeten one of the last mornings before starting work bright and early next week.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “you’re an animal”.

If you learn one thing about me through this whole page, it’s that I *love* cows. I grew up road-tripping to my grandparents, stopping at a dairy farm along the way, always happy to see the cutest animals ever! Now, I’ll sooner drive off the road trying to see the cows than miss their cute faces! (sorry passengers).

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “represent a word in Morse code”.

When I was younger, I got to go the the Spy Museum, where there was a whole part about morse code. I was excited to look at everyone’s representation, and decided to write my own phrase… quarantine is boring. Because it’s true…

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “Add a GIF making funny faces”.

In my house, a constant source of entertainment is my dog, Hildi. She’s a 110 pound (slightly overweight) Bernese Mountain Dog who loves broccoli, spinach, and peanut butter. Whenever she goes in the car, her priority is getting her head out of the window. Lips blowing, slobber flying creates the funniest faces…

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “demonstrate how to use a bicycle in a remarkable fashion”.

When I was younger, my friends and I spent our weekends and summers biking, rollerblading, and scootering around the neighborhood in little packs, much like the GIF used. Just imagine, the summer heat, cool gatorade, slide phones… ahhh the life!

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “ransom note”.

When I was younger, crime shows like Castle and Bones were some of my favorites, so this Daily Create brought me back. As COVID-19 is still raging around the world, I figured that I would write the note from a person who had the cure.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “describe your absolute worst experience with customer service”.

I’d like to think that my family is pretty crafts, so a Facebook add about a paint by number kit seemed like a good idea during a worldwide pandemic, right? Little did we know that two plus months later and we still don’t have a confirmation or the kit! We’ll see when it maybe? shows up!

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “tell us what your favorite poem is and why”.

Ever since the spring semester, I’ve been diving into reading all of the books that I didn’t get to read during the school year (all of my energy was channelled into reading textbooks rather than to reading for pleasure). Tanner Olson’s book of poetry called I’m All Over The Place holds a lot of wisdom and the poem Lead has been one of my favorites to read so far.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “with love from Florida (change Florida to the place where you are now”.

I’m from right outside of Richmond, VA and there’s no city more beautiful! I chose a photo of the skyline from across the James River, added the RVA logo in photoshop, and voila!

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “your boat”.

I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of alternative ways of living… from tiny houses to house boats to shipping container houses, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make a boat my imaginary home! I’ve named it The Continuance because despite everything, life must go on and continue even if it doesn’t look like it did previously.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “draw your foot”.

I’ve been enjoying creating drawings on Procreate using an iPad and Apple Pencil. Most of the time during the summer, I am at the pool coaching swim team. The pavement is hot and my feet hurt at the end of the day… Crocs are the perfect solution!

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “show us a very healthy lunch you are having today”.

CAVA is a mediterranean version of Chipotle where you choose your bowl/wrap and then add different toppings. It’s a healthy fresh option and the stores offer curbside and pickup during the pandemic.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “explain BCBTaBCTB”.

I had no idea what to do for this create, so I decided to spin it towards one of my passions: education! As a student who hopes to be a middle school teacher after college, I have realized that authenticity and boldness in the classroom is sometimes more important than anything else. Especially in secondary education, kids can tell if you’re being real or not, so I hope to own who I am and channel that into my classroom culture! Here’s to those brilliant teachers I’ve had over the years, I can only hope that I’ll be as cool as you! 🙂

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “make a viral warning text”.

For some reason when thinking about this daily create, the words social distance have been on my mind, as I’m sure they have been on a lot of people’s minds during this crazy time. I thought of “Stop! Collaborate and Listen” which rhymes with, “Stop! Collaborate but Social Distance”! I erased the original words from the sign and edited them in using Instagram Stories.

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “make a poem from book titles”.

Both my mom and I are avid readers, so she did this daily create along with me. It was really fun to go searching for books and to watch how the poem evolved and changed meanings as we added more titles!

Here is my poem:

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “send us a picture from your lock-down holidays”.

Just because we are social distancing and in quarantine doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take the time to get outside during our “lock-down vacation”. I took the opportunity to walk along the Riverfront Canal Walk with a friend. There were plenty of runners and families out, but most people disappeared after it started to pour! It was a fun walk back to the car, which was over a mile away (not!)!

The Daily Create is a challenge created for students (and others) to be creative in their environment with a new prompt every day. This prompt was, “recreate an famous album cover”.

I chose to recreate both Elvis Presley’s debut album Elvis Presley from 1956 as well as London Callingfrom The Clash. The 1979 album cover was created to be similar to Presley’s album cover. Read more about how The Clash paid homage to the King of Rock ‘n Roll.
