Vital Site for Research

I am studying and researching something that we have talked about shortly in class: Dorothea Lynde Dix’s campaigns for the mentally ill. A site that has proven to be vital for my research has been the U.S. National Library of Medicine, where I have been able to find a lot of relevant primary sources relating to my topic. Specifically, I discovered a “memorial” of Dix titled Memorial of D.L. Dix: Praying a Grant of Land for the Relief and Support of the Indigent Curable and Incurable Insane in the United States (1848). Given to the U.S. Congress, this is an important document for my research because it shows the ideals that Dix upheld throughout her campaigning while also touching on the publicity of her mission.
