Once upon a time…
Well… maybe give it a listen instead…
Tell a story using nothing but sound effects. There can be no verbal communication, only sound effects. Use at least five different sounds that you find online. The story can be no longer than 90 seconds. Another example (by a UMW student): http://ds106.us/wp-content/audio/audio_story.mp3
Inspiration struck for this series of sounds after my brother and some of his friends each decided to set up tents his friends backyard and have a social-distancing style campout. I honestly can’t imagine wanting to do that in this hot and humid weather… They had a campfire, ordered pizza, and (sort of) got some sleep under the stars. With little to no chance of a bear wandering near their tents, they had a good time. But, there was a bear in downtown Richmond this week… 2020 huh?
I was reminded of when my brother was little when he and my dad used to go camping with the YMCA out in the middle of no where with a bunch of his friends and other dads. They went and bought groceries, packed up the minivans and headed off to a campsite. I always remember them talking about having to string their food up into trees in bear bags to prevent unwanted visitors in camp.
When listening to the video, you hear a car starting and then driving away. The crunch of leaves as people are walking. Setting up camp. A match striking and lighting a campfire. People dozing off and snoring. But, suddenly there’s a bear snarling right outside the tent which causes someone to scream… the end.
I chose to leave the ending open-ended. Did the campers stay safe? Or were they someone’s next meal? I guess we’ll never know!

I loved seeming that you had some affiliation with the YMCA. I have always been involved with the YMCA organization whether it was with summer camps jobs, or volunteer opportunities. The bear GIF was also pretty funny to me and made me laugh a little.
Camping in this heat usually would be a no for me, but since quarantine and extreme boredom I would definitely do it. I enjoyed this audio story it is very well put together!
Micah – thank you so much for listening! I totally agree, me and hot weather don’t mix!
