Uvrashi Vaid is an attorney who works in social justice movements. She helped co-found the National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network, the National LGBT/HIV Criminal Justice Working Group, and the Creating Change Conference of the National LGBTQ Task Force. In addition, she has worked at the National LGBTQ Task Force, serving as its Public Information Director and later as its Executive Director. She has also written several books on LGBTQ issues, including, Irresistible Revolution: Confronting Race, Class, and the Assumptions of LGBT Politics (2012). She is currently the president of the Vaid Group, LLC, which is a consulting firm that supports nonprofits, foundations, businesses, and individuals seeking equity and Justice. She also serves as the Board Secretary for the American LGBTQ+ Museum. In an interview for Huffpost in 2014, Vaid said that she has two main goals for her activism. The first is to “take care of the parts of our community that are less powerful,” and the second is “for the LGBT community to use its political power and access to create a more just society for all.” (1)
